From Mark Grunewald, James P. Morefield Professor of Law; Chair, Hillel Advisory Board

When we refer to Jewish life on campus, we are not talking about something that is exclusively religious; we are equally concerned with the cultural and social components of Jewish life and the contribution it can make to the campus community as a whole.  Meaningful growth and development of Jewish life depends upon our attaining two closely-related objectives—first, having a critical mass of Jewish students here, and second, offering programs and services that meet their interests and needs.  Both symbolically and practically, a Center for Jewish Life should advance those objectives and at the same time serve to broaden the Washington and Lee experience for all its students.
